Re: How HOT does it really get
Over Dec 2014 we were in Shingwedzi, we swam at 5.30am, the water was so warm it made us feel ill, we did not need towels because as we walked back to our unit we were drying, we did not braai once and we drank our 2 week water supply over 3 days, we moved to our next camp which was Letaba, the heat...

Re: Teen boy fatally drowns at Letaba Swimming Pool
An accident like this was bound to happen, we visit Letaba every year and the over crowding has worsened as the years have gone by, we sometimes make breakfast at the day visitors area then we decide to have a swim, we pay our R10 as is expected from us and we have a swim, over Dec 2014, a busload o...

Re: INDEX to the best unit numbers
We stayed in number 26 in Dec 2014, I did not like it as the thatch roof was very low, there are staff quarters behind but they are not the main quarters because I heard and saw hardly any activity, I did see a few staff members but they did not make a noise, if sitting outside the accommodation the...

Re: Mopani Rest Camp
When making our booking for 2015/2016 we decided we would end our trip at Mopani, I booked a BD4 with a view, upon calling Mopani to request a specific number I was informed that I should choose either 49, 51 or 101 , which one is the better and does anybody have a photograph of 49 and 101? I did ma...

Re: Balule question
Over Dec 2014, we stayed in hut number 6, right on the fence, it was more than amazing, on our last night a breeding herd of ellies were grazing along the fence, they were so close that we could smell them and see every detail of them, my hubby always says that this was our best ever elephant sighti...

Re: Rain in Kruger
We entered the park on 21 December, through the Phalaborwa gate, it was boiling hot, we stayed at/in Shingwedzi for 2 nights, boy, was it hot??!!!!, we moved on to Letaba where it was even hotter, we watched storm clouds gather for 3 days in a row but nothing would happen, on day 4, we were in the p...

Re: pool question
I stayed in Olifants over December 2014 and travelled to Letaba to swim everyday, I also stayed in Tamboti and went to Orpen on two occasions to swim, we did a day trip to Pretoriuskop to do all our favourite loops and when we where finished we decide to pop into the camp to have a swim, we were sta...

Re: Shingwedzi Rest Camp
I have just returned from my annual pilgrimage to the Kruger and in my opinion Shingwedzi has the best swimming pool, it is blue, sparkling clean and VERY well looked after, the pool attendant really does a good job, by 7am, it was swimmable, it was the only refuge from the heat wave that was sweepi...

Re: Where would you like to be right now?
The Fayi and Shabeni loops are my favourites to do, the times that we have done them we have always been the only car, simply awesome, amazing scenery and the feeling of being the only ones on the planet, just cannot get any better

Re: Who is losing money -- Sanparks or tour operators?
Joep, we were in Pretoriuskop over December 2013, our plans changed and we wanted to extend our stay with 3 nights, we asked at reception if there was "open" accommodation and they said "no, the camp is full", after walking around the camp every day and night (for our daily exerc...

Re: You know you're a Kruger fan when...
leo21, I know that feeling, I have the Go magazines guide to the Kruger 2012/3 editions in my car, and when I used to have to wait in the car park for my child after school those were the books that I read, I know them back to front, right to left by now, by reading those books over and over gave me...

Re: Camp Choice??
MM, we stayed in Letaba over Dec 2013, we swam in the pool at the Day visitors area after paying a R10.00 entrance fee each, the pool in the camp itself was very, very full and busy. We were the only ones in the day visitors pool, maybe because of the R10.00 per person charge?
