General condition: Nature's Valley Campsites

Hey everyone. Been a while since I posted on this forum.
We are hardened Kruger, Kgalagadi and MZNP campers but want to head to Nature's Valley in December since we had our honeymoon there and want to show the kids.

What are the campsites like? Sufficient shade? What are the ablutions like?

Thanks

Re: Dalkeith is dry

A recent visitor actually said all the waterholes south of Mata-Mata were dry during their visit first week of November.

Sitzas, Dalkeith, Craig Lockhart, 14th and 13th borehole.
Could we perhaps get a status report from the Park on these as well, Matthys?

Re: Kruger staff hacking horn off a dead ***?

I don't quite agree Morkel. . Fortunately we can agree to disagree on a great deal of topics and still have a decent discussion It is a very small number of visitors that would take offence seeing a horn being removed from an already dead ***. If they had to put the animal down for some reason, the...

Re: Kruger staff hacking horn off a dead ***?

Having said that; I also understand that a park visitor is shocked when seeing this. Kids perhaps even more so. So perhaps the lessen learned for SANparks is to do this away from tourists, or maybe even better to explain to the onlookers what is being done and why. Like that one guide did (mentione...

Re: Poaching

A few thoughts on the legalising of the trade... 1. First of all, it will send the wrong message. Instead of discouraging the errant use of *** horn for mythical medicinal value and as a status drug (in Vietnam particularly), it will tell end-users that they are justified and can carry on doing what...

Re: Kruger staff hacking horn off a dead ***?

Thanks for posting here, pixelpower. I was just about to I merely reshared some photos taken by a recent visitor to Kruger, and her description of what she (and various other vehicles) witnessed is as follows: Abbreviated Translation for international readers: 2 rhinos and official Kruger Park vehic...

Re: KTP - a solo photographic and birding tour

Some nice images coming through here, John! Keep them coming. Regarding your comments on white balance and shooting jpg, I thought I'd chip in for the benefit of all reading and following the discussion here... 1. White Balance differs with camera brands. I used to shoot Canon and their Auto WB had ...

Imberbe, sure - it won't...
But it is better than nothing, and that's the argument

Re: Elephant Attack on Vehicle

Some food for thought... First off let me state clearly that the following musing is NOT my de facto view. It's the view of a friend and respected person in conservation and photography circles and what he said just brought another side of the coin to bear. Previously it was stated that the Park man...

Re: Elephant Attack on Vehicle

Well the video ends all speculation and giving the injured people the benefit of the doubt. They placed themselves at risk, ignored the MANY warning signs the bull was giving them, ignored the chance they could take to drive past when he moved off the road and came up next to them, and brought serio...

Re: Is this what visitors to our National Parks really want?

Let us enjoy Kruger while it lasts. One day when we sit in our luxury feng sui room, overlooking the canoeists racing the crocodiles down the Olifants river, whilst listening to a local artist singing at the bar to entertain the needs of the new customers gambling at the slots, we will remember the...

Re: Is this what visitors to our National Parks really want?

KTP is not a big 5 park and they tried to push through a cycle challenge in a delicate riverbed without the proper EIA or EMP or whatever and then had to cancel the event because the people were more interested in riding in the delicate riverbed than raising funds for conservation. SANParks again s...

Re: Is this what visitors to our National Parks really want?

Without delving into too much of SA Politics...here are 2 observations: 1. It seems there is a lack/reduction of government funding for SANParks. It's a pity that we as taxpayers have to see the tax we pay put into exorbitant and unnecessary housing upgrades for our Commander-in-Chief as well as som...

Re: April fool?

This is sad.

Who can remember the authentic Buffalo Pie with Gravy available in the old days, made by the park staff itself?

I for one am glad that I am discovering great other reserves in neighbouring countries where the feeling of wilderness is cherished and upheld... :x

Re: Developments planned for the KTP

I think the writing is on the wall - A new Kruger is emerging. Fast. I state that with all the new developments there will be no alternative but to tar the main roads in the KTP - and that happening within the next ten years (or less) - watch this space - mark my words ....... I hope and pray that ...
