At the time, though, I didn't know that there was this 1891 graffiti on the tree, so I didn't look for it. What I really want to know is whether the graffiti itself can be seen from your car, or whether it's on the far side of the tree, which would mean you'd have to get out of your car and approach...

Can you see Von Weilligh's graffiti (initials and the date 1891) on the baobab along the S93 between Letaba and Olifants from the road? Or would you need to be on foot? Thanks for the feedback, Gabrielle. Given that Augrabies already has cycling as one leg of the Gariep 3-in-1 Trail, this seems to make a lot more sense as a venue than the Kgalagadi wilderness area.

As far as I know, there's been an unexpected delay because the publisher it was with closed down that division so Gus had to find another publisher. He has now done so, but it's a slow process so we're going to have to be patient.

I doubt if the event will be supported that well if it is staged outside the Park. SANParks is interested in revenue and the cyclist wants return on investment - i.e. having the unique opportunity to ride IN the Park.
