Re: Balule Satellite Camp

On the camping side there is a huge kettle on a gas ring so boiling water is always available. Enjoy your trip.

Re: TSENDZE RUSTIC CAMPSITE-Sightings

Rodger, GREAT shots!! The bush shrike is so difficult as it seldom is still for more than a few seconds. Hope to see you in January on my way North from Balule. Hope that you and Elina have a wonderful Xmas and New Year.

Re: Balule Satellite Camp

They are described as freezers, but in the camping area, with 15 campsites they carry heavy traffic and so might freeze stuff overnight. The hut area should be better with only 5 huts.

Re: Balule Satellite Camp

Hi Horrace, Although there is no power, electrical, the freezers are gas. We have found that in times when the camp is busy these freezers become very effective fridges and will keep frozen food frozen. The showers do have hot water, also gas, and I think you are right in assuming that hot showers w...

Re: Balule Satellite Camp

MM, the best camp in Kruger, but already too many people know that. We always plan our trip around a Balule booking which we do as soon as the booking for the relevant period opens. It fill up so quickly with only 15 sites! Titus who runs it is amazing, always cheerful and he keeps the camp super cl...

Re: A Spring visit to Balule

As we made our way North we were lucky enough to meet these Kruger friends. PICT0079.jpg 20160519_115512.jpg PICT0213.jpg 20160524_151842.jpg And then we arrived at Balule to be welcomed by a colony of White Fronted Bee Eaters on the right as we crossed the causeway. Leervis' A Spring visit to Balule. KNP, Aug. 2016

I never got to finish my last TR, in fact I barely started it. The trip was good but I must say that we are not used the more crowded South. We had good sightings, The camp sites at Berg en Dal and Pretoriuskop were great and at Balule we managed to arrive when site number 9 was open, this is the be...

Re: KNP summer migrants - November

Last November was not a good birding trip as the rains had not started. VERY - VERY hot, 45 + and with no rain, no insect = no birds. Did not even hear a woodland. Having said that I must say that the weather was extreme and normally the migrants should have started.

Re: Exploring the South again.

Berg en Dal is a great camp for campers. The camping area is large and divided into, more or less 3 separate sections. The most Southerly area, where we were has nice, flat and generously sized sites and as I mentioned we were lucky enough to get a goodie on the fence. Once all the " stuff &quo...

Re: Exploring the South again.

It was a pleasure leaving later than usual and the drive down to the Lowveld scores high on the scenic scale. We had packed our own padkos and so we drove through to Nelspruit without any stops. Our overnight accommodation, just out side the town, was a pretty awful and the restaurant they advertise...

Leervis' Exploring the South again. KNP, May 2016

Like many, our first Kruger trips as adults and parents, were predominately to the South and occasionally to Central sections. I actually remember our first trip North. There was no Mopani or Tsendze in those days, and I felt a little like Livingstone as we set off from Letaba and headed into the No...

Re: Sirheni Bushveld Camp

IMHO Sirheni is the best of the bush camps. While sightings are always " how lucky you are on the day " we have seen everything in the area, and tons from the camp. The best way to get there is via Polokwane - Giyani - Punda Gate. From Jhb about 50kms further than the Phalaborwa gate. Good...

Re: Another Solo Trip

I would like to thank all who have been with me on this journey, you motivated me to carry on with the story and all your kind words are very appreciated. I must say that a solo trip is better than no trip, but having Warty with me definitely improves the experience and makes it so much more civilis...
