Congratulations Virtual Honorary Rangers! Congratulations SANParks Forums!

At the annual Kudu Awards, held on Friday, 1 November 2013 at the CSIR, the Virtual Honorary Rangers region was announced as the winner of the Community Contribution to Conservation (Region) Award. This is the SANParks Honorary Rangers (a volunteer organisation working in national parks) Awards. They won as a result of their efforts in nature conservation issues and contribution to SANParks through fundraising and support of Environmental Education programmes.

A call to all adrenalin junkies! The Merrell Eden Duo will take place on the 26th to the 27th of October 2013, at Ebb & Flow, in the Wilderness section of the Garden Route National Park. It is a 24 hour multi-sport event combining all forms of racing, mountain biking, kloofing, paddling, trekking and easy navigation.

Disease free buffalos re-introduced in Marakele National Park

South African National Parks (SANParks) has on Tuesday, 15 October 2013 re-introduced a herd of 20 disease free buffalo, comprising of nine cows and eleven bulls, into Marakele National Park, situated outside Thabazimbi in Limpopo.

The fire which affected the north-eastern section of Karoo National Park last week, and which was extinguished on Thursday afternoon, flared up again on Friday night, fanned by strong winds.  Initially confined to the section of the Park called Mountain View since Saturday 5 October - this time the fire spread to the Park’s middle plateau.

Picketing in areas outside Punda Maria Gate, Kruger National Park

The firefighting troops deployed to the scene of the veld fire inside Karoo National Park since Saturday have been retracted following the successful extinguishing of the blaze yesterday afternoon.  The teams left the area early this morning after spending the night on the mountain to ensure that all was safe.

The Centre is located in the historic Buffelsfontein homestead, which dates back to the early 1740's.
