Restaurant closures in the Kruger National Park

As you might be aware SANParks, in an effort to improve customer service in the Kruger National Park, is in the process of setting up new restaurant operations at various camps. Major improvements have started and should result in superior product offerings to our customers. It should however be noted that there have been some changes and delays to the initial schedule, mainly as a result of the larger extent of refurbishment to what was expected. A revised schedule is outlined below.

South African National Parks (SANParks) would like to report that a dehorned rhino spotted by visitors on Friday, 28 February 2014, has not been located as yet after an aerial and ground search was conducted over the weekend.

Of the 9 188 368 international tourists who arrived in SA in 2012, an estimated 558, 014 headed to the Western Cape during peak seasons (Quarter 1 and 4).  Popular tourist destinations are Cape Town, the Garden Route and the Winelands, according to the 2012 Western Cape Tourism Trends report (WESGRO).

Illegal hunters have appeared in the Makhado Magistrates court today, Monday 17 February 2014 on charges of hunting illegally on the farm Den Staat which is an open system to the Mapungubwe National Park and World Heritage Site, situated outside Musina in Limpopo.

Red tide degraded - it is now safe to use water

Scientists (Knysna Basin Project and Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries) have found no evidence of toxicity of the red tide in Knysna. Of the three types of organisms that could have potentially caused the red tide in Knysna, the dinoflagellate group was identified as dominant.

Minister Edna Molewa welcomes the R232.2 million grant received by Peace Parks Foundation from the Dutch and Swedish Postcode Lotteries to combat rhino poaching in southern Africa

South Africa’s Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs, Minister Edna Molewa has lauded the R232.2 million grant made to the Peace Parks Foundation by the Dutch and Swedish Postcode Lotteries. The Dutch Postcode Lottery donated R217 million of the total donation, with R15.2 million being contributed by the Swedish Postcode Lottery, towards the fight against rhino poaching.
