A suspicious man wearing a black shirt armed with what looked like a heavy calibre hunting rifle was spotted by tourists walking in the Kruger National Park (KNP) on the 13th of January 2016, around the Napi section of the park.

Park Management Plans: Notice to Kalahari Gemsbok- and Mountain Zebra National Park stakeholders

Notice is given to all interested and affected parties that in terms of section 39, read with section 41 of the National Environmental Management: Protected Areas Act No. 57 of 2003 (NEM:PAA) that SANParks is revising the park management plans for Kalahari Gemsbok National Park (KGNP) and Mountain Zebra National Park (MZNP). 

Media Release: Gale Force South Easterly Fanning across Table Mountain National Park

12 January 2016 - The weekend saw the ignition of several vegetation fires across sections of Table Mountain National Park. Fires at Devils Peak and Signal Hill were largely contained but because of gale force south easterly winds these areas continue to be monitored. The biggest concern however is a fire that started on Sunday near the Red Hill informal settlement which was contained on the same day but flared up once again in the early hours of Monday morning.  This fire is now covering an expanse from Red Hill to Ocean View via Scarborough and Misty Cliffs.

09 January 2016 - The Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) can confirm that the DEA, South African National Parks (SANParks) and the Tsitsikamma Angling Forum (representatives of the Tsitsikamma fishing community) have reached a settlement agreement with the Friends of the Tsitsikamma Association, to stop the pilot recreational angling project in the Tsitsikamma Marine Protected Area (MPA).

Kruger National Park Management would like to inform the public about the new rules and conditions which have been put in place for the use of swimming pools inside the Park as from the 17th of December 2015. This is due to the fact that the Park does not have life savers on site to supervise swimmers and to be able to ensure the welfare of pool users, especially kids, at all times.

Presence of red tide

Two water samples collected from where the Indian Ocean meets the Knysna estuary (Knysna Heads) and also in the ocean on both Friday and Saturday morning tested positive. There is a definite presence of dinoflagellates in both water samples. Both Professor Brian Allanson of the Knysna Basin Project and Professor Bornman of the NRF/ SEAON agree there is a red tide. Bornman’s tests were conducted in the Algoa coastline (Port Elizabeth).

It's all systems go - Pilot in the Tsitsikamma Marine Protected Area (MPA)

It is exactly five days to the start of the pilot phase to allow fishing in 4 controlled zones in the Tsitsikamma Marine Protected Area. The pilot is an action from an agreement signed between SANParks and representatives of the Tsitsikamma community (Tsitsikamma Angling Forum and Koukamma Municipality).

On Tuesday 1st December 2015 at an event that was attended by the Free State Education MEC, honourable Tate Makgoe, South African National Parks (SANParks) handed over a science laboratory to Moriting wa Thuto Secondary school in the Eastern Free State. This makes it the second laboratory to be donated to the Free State Department of Education in less than two years.

The suspects were arrested by a multi-disciplinary and intelligence operation led by the Hawks in Gauteng and North West Provinces.
