South African National Parks (SANParks) will be opening its 10th annual SA National Parks Week at Marakele National Park from 14 to 18 September 2015. This initiative, in partnership with Total SA, is in line with SANParks' vision statement of ‘A sustainable National Park System Connecting Society'.

Latest update regarding the protests in Phalaborwa

As of this morning, 6 August 2015, police confirmed that the protests in Phalaborwa have been suspended and the situation is currently calm. Visitors to/from the Kruger National Park can once again make use of the Phalaborwa Gate.

Phalaborwa Gate inaccessible due to protests on R71 Road

Guests of Kruger National Park are hereby informed that Phalaborwa Gate is currently inaccessible due to protests by communities in the Ba-Phalaborwa area on the access roads such as R71 (leading to Phalaborwa Gate) taking place since Sunday, 2 August 2015. The protests have so far resulted in some vehicles burnt, schools & businesses affected and temporarily closed. Guests are advised to use alternative gates such as Orpen or Punda Maria to access and exit Kruger National Park until further notice.

1 August 2015 - The Minister of Environmental Affairs, Mrs Edna Molewa, has paid tribute to game rangers working at the coalface of conservation in South Africa. 

Media Release: R2.55 million rand fine imposed on bosveld phosphates( Pty) Ltd. for water pollution.

South African National Parks (SANParks) welcomed the sentencing today, 30 July 2015 of Bosveld Phosphates PTY Ltd to a fine of R1, 450 million cash and a suspended sentence of R1, 1 million for water spillage at the Ga-Selati River in 2014. The spillage caused significant pollution of the environment, including the Kruger National Park (KNP)’s Olifants River during the summer of 2013/14. The ruling took place at the Phalaborwa Regional Court.
