Brenton controlled ecological burn totally under control

18 May 2017

The Brenton controlled burn is totally under control. This after flames flared day before yesterday, 16th May 2017 due to strong winds. "Because the burn was planned, we had adequate resources to deal with the fire" confirmed Clint Manuel, Chief Fire Officer for Knysna.

Japie Hendriks of the Southern Cape Fire Protection Association says the fog from the sea has brought the necessary relief. Last night, there were 2 internal flare ups. "Today’s plan is to ensure there’s no smoke and no fire."

Speaking on behalf of the SANParks teams, Nico Oosthuizen said there are 3 teams on site and resources allocated to carry on with work for today. Shifts are expected to carry on into the night.
