South African National Parks (SANParks) Chief Executive, Mavuso Msimang, announced today that the Paul Kruger statue and the three busts will not be removed on Wednesday as had been earlier indicated.

“Our attention has been drawn to the terms of the National Heritage Resources Act No 25 of 1999 which stipulates that the removal of a monument or memorial requires the permission of the South African Heritage Resources Agency. SANParks will accordingly apply for such a permit. We regret the omission and any inconvenience to the public that may have been caused.” said Msimang.
