Media Release: Funeral Service For Victims Of Kruger Fire
A mass funeral service for 13 of the 23 victims of the fire which devastated Kruger National Park last week, will be held on Saturday, 15 September. Nine of the remaining victims from the Makoko community will be buried according to traditional rituals and one of the Kruger rangers from the Punda Maria area will be buried in his home town.
The funeral service will start at the Skukuza rugby field at 08:00 on Saturday morning. Family members of the victims will then proceed to the Kruger Gate Cemetery at 10:00 for the burial. Other mourners are requested to visit the cemetery after this. The park authorities will make all transport, catering and other logistical arrangements and carry the costs for these.
Dr Mthembu, General Secretary of the Mpumalanga Council of Churches, will officiate at the funeral service.
