Media Release: Funeral Service For Victims Of Kruger Fire
In a show of solidarity for the victims of the fire in the Kruger last week, the Makoko community has decided to participate in the mass funeral service to be held in the Kruger National Park tomorrow (Saturday, 15 September). Twenty-two (22) of the victims will therefore be buried tomorrow. One of the Kruger rangers from the Punda Maria area will be buried in his home town.
The funeral service will start at the Skukuza rugby field at 08:00 on Saturday morning. Family members of the victims will then proceed to the Kruger Gate Cemetery at 10:00 for the burial. Other mourners are requested to visit the cemetery after this. The park authorities will carry the cost for all of the funeral arrangements.
The Bushbuckridge Taxi Association, Great North Transport, Busco, Vula Tours, Untamed Africa, Spuwing, and Place of Rock have kindly offered to make taxis and buses available tomorrow to transport mourners to Skukuza for the service.
Dr. Mthembu, General Secretary of the Mpumalanga Council of Churches and Dr. O J Sibanyoni, also from the Mpumalanga Council of Churches, will officiate at the funeral service.
