Flap your flippers to the Simon's Town Penguin Festival

It’s time to get those flippers flapping to this year’s annual Penguin Festival, once again taking place at Boulders Beach Penguin Colony in Simon’s Town on Saturday, 13 October 2012. 

African Penguin Awareness Day – Penguin Beach Release
Seaforth Beach, Simon’s Town at 10h00 

The annual Simon’s Town Penguin Festival is hosted every year by SANCCOB and South African National Parks (SANParks) and begins with the beach release of rescued African Penguins back into the wild. 

Leading on from African Penguin Awareness Day on Saturday 13 October, the release will kick off the festivities and will take place at Seaforth Beach in Simon’s Town. Those wishing to witness this moving event can find parking at the Seaforth beach parking area.


Festival Fun 
Saturday 13 October 2012 – 10h00 – 15h00 

A fun-filled day of festivities, this year includes environmental displays, a treasure hunt, a spider exhibit and snake show, the SASSI Celebrity Chef sustainable seafood cook-off and raptor show.  In addition to these and other live shows, plenty fun is to be had at the festival, with exhibitions, games and great prizes to be won for the whole family.

The festival and its various activities can be found at the parking area at the end of Bellevue Road, Simon’s Town.

SANCCOB Gala Auction 
Tuesday 30 October 2012 at 18h00 

To conclude the month of African Penguin Awareness, created through the Simon’s Town Penguin Festival, SANCCOB will host its annual Benefit Auction on Tuesday 30 October, this year hosted by Col’Caccio Pizzeria Restaurant in Cavendish Square, Claremont. 

This prestigious black-tie event celebrates the work of SANCCOB and its conservation partners in the rescue and conservation of African Penguins. Enjoy an evening of dinner paired with wine accompanied by an auction for an excellent cause.

Tickets cost R250 per person and include a welcome drink, canapés and dinner with paired wines. Limited tickets are available and should be booked by emailing or calling 021 557 6155 before 28 October 2012.
