More than 150 golfers from both private and public sector will meet and show their mettle on the fairways of Skukuza Golf Course on Thursday, 14 October 2010 as they compete in the 6th annual Kruger National Park (KNP)/Old Mutual Corporate Golf Day.

Dubbed the “Corporate Golf Safari”, the event allows business and government representatives to face each other in a relaxed recreational environment as opposed to them meeting in business lunches and other work related gatherings.

The KNP’s Managing Executive, Abe Sibiya said that this is indeed testimony that what began as a small event wherein golfers showed their mettle on the fairways of Skukuza Golf Club for top honours has since grown into an even bigger passionate experience. “The idea is to create an opportunity for our stakeholders to network and play golf in a unique environment,” indicated Sibiya.

Representatives from companies like Old Mutual, Development Bank of South Africa (DBSA), Total SA and others will again have an opportunity of playing against each other; a delegation which mostly comprises of representatives from Mpumalanga Government will also form part of the event. There will also be representation from South African national Parks (SANParks) head office and the media, including the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC).

“Not only has the KNP and Old Mutual’s relationship strengthened but it has also paved a way for the two institutions to build relationships with the various corporations and government departments from all over South Africa;” added Sibiya.

Skukuza Golf Club was originally built in 1972 as a staff recreational facility and was opened to members of the public in 1999. “The facility, which offers golfers that back to nature feeling as they attempt the various holds, has become a destination of choice for golfers from around the country;” concluded Sibiya.

The course is a nine-hole, 18 tee Par 72. The clubhouse includes a Pro shop, cash bar, a catering area and big screen television for major sporting events. The facility can also be used for events and functions. The club is situated just to the west of Skukuza Rest Camp and is close to Kruger Entrance Gate in the Southern Marula Region of the KNP.
