Media Release: Getaway goes wild in celebration of its 21st birthday!
From deserts to waterways - Mana Pools, Etosha and Chobe National Parks to Golden Gate, De Hoop Nature Reserve and South Africa’s flagship Kruger, Getaway’s April issue is a compendium of the attractions that draw millions of local and overseas tourists each year.
As outgoing editor Don Pinnock put it, “It’s been a wild and wonderful ride. Because the magazine’s deep keel has always been a celebration of Africa’s glorious wilderness, we couldn’t think of a better way to mark our birthday than to bring you Southern Africa’s top 21 parks – and to remember the debt we all owe to our beautiful blue planet.”
The birthday issue’s striking black and gold cover signals the celebratory nature of this special edition and serves as a prologue to an issue that lays particular emphasis on photography, while still providing relevant information on each park.
It doesn’t end there – it’s bumper prize time for readers, too. Readers can take advantage of the R200 000 in giveaways that is Getaway’s gift to its loyal audience. Among these competitions are bush breaks, multi-tools, vouchers, gear and books. A subscriber competition will net the winner a R30 000 stay for two at Tenahead Mountain Lodge, an upmarket lodge in South Africa.
Commenting on the magazine’s landmark birthday, publisher Jacquelsine Lahoud said, “Getaway has established itself as a credible, informative, entertaining and well-researched publication read by more than 540 000 people each month. Today, the brand includes print, Getaway.co.za, the Getaway Show, Getaway Events, Getaway books, guides and supplements, TV, Getaway adventures and mobile.getaway.co.za.”
