Media Release: KNP warns against false representation
The acting Managing Executive of the Kruger National Park (KNP), Mr Abe Sibiya warned companies and members of the public to be on the lookout for people who falsely represent the KNP.
“It has come to our attention that there are at least three people operating in the communities and towns around the park that are claiming to represent the park and offering tenders and job opportunities and we would like to stress that the KNP follows accepted government tender procedures, so they must resist these approaches,” he said.
One of the men apparently approached a Giyani company and offered it a tender worth R700 000 if this company paid a deposit of R50 000. It is believed that the man does not produce any ID documents, is not in any SANParks uniform and does not produce any legal documentation to back up his claim.
“We have advised the Giyani–based company to report this matter to the SAPS immediately as we believe this action is fraud, but we don’t know whether this has indeed been done yet,” commented Mr Sibiya.
All SANParks job opportunities and invitations for tenders are published in newspapers. Positions are then filled after interviews and tenders are adjudicated at a Tender Committee.
“We would like to warn any member of the public or business in our surrounding area to check the credentials of the person who claims to represent the KNP before entering into any agreements with them,” he concluded.
If any member of the public suspects that a fraudulent action has taken place, they are welcome to report this to the toll free national security fraud hotline 0800 60 10 11.
