Media Release: Mapungubwe National Park Cholera status
The Limpopo River has tested positive for cholera, a provincial health department spokesperson told media on Tuesday, 2 December 2008.
However, Musina residents were expressing concerns about possible contamination nearly two weeks ago as sewage seeped into the river from the Beitbridge.
As part of the contingency measure, Mapungubwe National Park arranged for the testing of water in the park with the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry (DWAF); and the assurance from DWAF is that nothing has been detected during the test.
Mapungubwe National Park can guarantee our prospective clients that should there be evidence of a cholera outbreak in the park; contingency plans are already in place. These will be appropriate to all our tourist facilities; rest camps, picnic sites, hides and all our management facilities, workshops, staff villages and main gate/reception areas.
We advise all our prospective clients not to be anxious and are welcome to visit and enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the Mapungubwe National Park.
