KNP Management Plan / Nasionale Krugerwildtuin Bestuursplan

Date: 2006-09-12

In Beeld yesterday (September 11, 2006) there was an article dealing with the drafting of the KNP management plan.

One of the points made by the article was that new visitors to the Kruger National Park, predominantly from previously disadvantaged communities, would like more “entertainment” (or “vermaak”). They specifically prefer guided activities like game drives, morning walks and the like.

Judging by the response from the public, the word “vermaak” evokes singing, dancing and other forms of entertainment other than that intended.

As any visitor to the Kruger National Park would know, these activities, which tend to be noisy, certainly do not form part of any permanent plan for the entertainment of visitors to the Kruger National Park.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the confusion and trust that visitors to the Kruger National Park will continue to enjoy the peace and tranquility that they have enjoyed in the past.

The KNP Management Plan is open to public discussion and can be found on this website at http://www.sanparks.org/conservation/park_man/. Members of the public are welcome to view this draft and no where in the draft is it suggested that activities such as these will be allowed in the Park.

Anyone can forward comments on this management plan to either aodendaal@zitholele.co.za or to helenm@sanparks.org.

Nasionale Krugerwildtuin Bestuursplan [in Afrikaans]
