Media Release: Two Kruger Guides Appear In Court
“As custodians of South Africa’s rich natural assets, we would like to assure the public that we will not hesitate to unleash the full extent of the law on anyone, both inside the organisation and outside, who is caught poaching in the areas under our control,” said South African National Park’s (SANParks) Chief Operating Officer, Mr Sydney Soundy.
The Court appearance of the two field guides follows an extensive investigation by SANParks Corporate Investigation Services (CIS) and the KNP Ranger Corps after a rhino carcass was found near Berg en Dal Rest Camp on Thursday May 4, 2006.
Evidence has led to the arrest of the two field guides; one based at Berg en Dal and the other at Skukuza Rest Camp.
The investigation has led to the discovery of a second rhino carcass near Skukuza yesterday, (Wednesday May 17, 2006).
Both field guides are now in South African Police Service (SAPS) custody and are suspended from active duty in the KNP pending the results of the court case. They will also be charged in terms of the SANParks internal disciplinary code.
