Kruger National Park
KNP Scientific Services
Registration Procedure
To promote institutional learning and knowledge recovery, Scientific Services has a registration process to be followed when interested in working in the park as a researcher. The registration process follows these steps:
- For a project to be registered it must, to a certain extent meet Kruger National Park’s objectives. These objectives can be viewed at http://www.sanparks.org under management plans. The Kruger National Park should be able to logistically and technically support the project.
- For further discussions, a Programme Manager responsible for the subject of your interest can be contacted, or a Science Liaison Officer for information and guidance.
- The project proposal is handed in after ensuring that all the requirements of a proposal as outlined in the format have been met.
- The project will be presented to a Scientific Services Meeting; this is a meeting of specialized scientists. They will screen the project for its relevance to the KNP’s objectives and its feasibility and rate the project accordingly.
- After they approve the project it will then be tabled at a Conservation Meeting. This is a management meeting of different departments, they will look at feasibility, the effects of the project in the park, the impact on rangers sections and their involvement.
- When this meeting approves the project, SANParks represented by the Specialist Head of Department: Conservation Services will enter into an agreement with the researcher with the terms of the agreement clearly stipulated. Signing of the agreement by the HOD marks the beginning of the project.
- Should the project involve handling of verterbrates, it has to comply with the SANParks Animal Use and Care Committee guidelines.
- All applications or enquiries should be directed to: The Science Liaison Officer, Tel: 013 735 4254, Fax: 013 735 4055, E-mail.
