Bontebok National Park re-opens to public
Bontebok National Park will re-open to the public on Wednesday, 19 November 2008 following flooding over the past week.
There was no damage to the chalets or ablution block in Lang Elsies Kraal, but the day visitor's area (Die Stroom) has sustained extensive damage and will be closed indefinitely. Various roads inside the Park leading towards Die Stroom are also still covered in debris and a full assessment of the damage and estimated clean up time and cost will only be completed during next week.
Hiking trails inside the Park remain closed until further notice, due to damage, debris and standing water.
The 11 riverside campsites are still under water, but visitors with reservations for these sites will be accommodated elsewhere in the rest camp. The main game viewing road, the Eastern Drive is unscathed and visitors will be able to do game viewing in the largest portion of the Park.
For any further information, kindly contact Bontebok National Park on (028) 514 2735.
