The late Honorary Ranger (HR) Dorothy Bickley will be remembered as an absolute enthusiast about wildlife, her unwavering loyalty to the Honorary Rangers, and her thoroughness in sending little cards of acknowledgement in the days when submitting duty reports to Head Office.
During the weekend of 23-25 October the inauguration of the old farm house took place with an exclusive and unique birding event at the Marakele National Park which accommodated a limited number of paying guests.
On 9 and 10 October 2009, Vanessa Strydom (Manager: Conservation Interpretation and Training from SANParks Conservation Services, in the Kruger National Park (KNP)) visited the West Coast National Park Honorary Rangers and presented the Orientation Course for KNP.
The West Rand Honorary Rangers recently held their first Photographic Weekend in the Mapungubwe National Park – with much hope that this will become as popular as the birding weekends and a regular fixture on the SANParks calendar!
The Honorary Rangers National Project of Public Education and Awareness Project (PEAP) represented South African National Parks (SANParks) at a Birdlife SA display at the Johannesburg Zoo. The PEAP had the opportunity to pass knowledge of SANParks to the public.
The Honorary Rangers Counter Poaching and Ranger Support Services National Project (CP & RSS) chaired by the legendary John Turner of the Johannesburg Region have honed their fundraising skills over the last 15 years to a fine art.
At a glittering ceremony held at Gallagher Estate in Midrand, iKapa Honorary Rangers Chairperson Sue Smith accepted the prestigious Kudu Award for Honorary Rangers Project of the Year presented by SANParks CEO Dr David Mabunda.
The Counter Poaching and Ranger Support Services National Project of the SANParks Honorary Rangers celebrated the 10th anniversary of this special and popular event at Letaba in the Kruger National Park from 17 to 21 June 2009.
