The West Rand Honorary Rangers recently held their first Photographic Weekend in the Mapungubwe National Park – with much hope that this will become as popular as the birding weekends and a regular fixture on the SANParks calendar!
The Honorary Rangers National Project of Public Education and Awareness Project (PEAP) represented South African National Parks (SANParks) at a Birdlife SA display at the Johannesburg Zoo. The PEAP had the opportunity to pass knowledge of SANParks to the public.
The Honorary Rangers Counter Poaching and Ranger Support Services National Project (CP & RSS) chaired by the legendary John Turner of the Johannesburg Region have honed their fundraising skills over the last 15 years to a fine art.
At a glittering ceremony held at Gallagher Estate in Midrand, iKapa Honorary Rangers Chairperson Sue Smith accepted the prestigious Kudu Award for Honorary Rangers Project of the Year presented by SANParks CEO Dr David Mabunda.
The Counter Poaching and Ranger Support Services National Project of the SANParks Honorary Rangers celebrated the 10th anniversary of this special and popular event at Letaba in the Kruger National Park from 17 to 21 June 2009.
Three facilitators and 41 young people of the Junior Ranger Group at Qhilika High School in Durban visited the Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa (WESSA) Conservation Education Centre at Umgeni Valley in Howick during 6 to 8 April.
On 28 March 2009, history in the small was made in the Kruger National Park (KNP). The Honorary Rangers of the Bushveld region hosted a fishing competition at the Reënvoël Dam in the Nxanatseni South Region of the Park.
The KwaZulu-Natal Region's Honorary Rangers first meeting of 2009 discussed the Junior Rangers’ work. A slide show entitled - “A Pictorial History of Junior Rangers (JRs) in KZN 2006 – 2009” was presented.
This February Jan de Wet, the former KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Honorary Rangers’ (HR) chairman, as well as Bob and Ellen Abel visited the head office of the Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife to award them with a certificate as Partners in Conservation.
At the Honorary Rangers meeting held on February 14, 2009 at the Kranzkloof Nature Reserve, Kloof (Durban), the KZN Honorary Rangers hosted 17 of the region's Junior Rangers (JR) and three facilitators.
