PEAP exhibits at KNP’s Mopani Conference Centre
This outreach program aims to educate the public at large about conservation issues as well as the many Parks that fall under the South African National Parks (SANParks). The HRs are taking this exhibition throughout the country and their next stop is the West Coast National Park.
The exhibit consists of a variety of items (animal traps, a rhino skull, kudu horns, lion claws, snake skins, shark's teeth, owl feathers, and whale bones) as well as display boards with useful information. Apart from the rhino horn and elephant tusks, which are made from imitation fibreglass, all other items have been donated from the various Parks.
Monique, the African Penguin (formerly Jackass Penguin) stands guard as the mascot of this rather special collection and was donated by the friendly staff at Boulders.
One of the main attractions of this exhibition is the interaction with the Honorary Rangers who man this exhibit. Many conservation issues are tackled by the HRs - such as poaching, the existence of Parks and the conservation of vultures are initiated with the public.
Mopani Rest Camp and its Conference Centre are honoured to have the Honorary Rangers and PEAP exhibit there.
This exhibition will run until 3 January 2010 - times: 08:00 - 19:00.
