Transport and tours for people with disabilities

One of the challenges facing people with disabilities, particularly those with mobility impairment is that of transport.

There is, however, parties who specialize in providing tourism opportunities for people with disabilities. These include organized trips to national parks such as Kruger National Park. These parties are external entrepreneurs. SANParks is in full support of the service they provide and is thus happy to provide their contact details as options for those people seeking specialized tour packages.

While this is not an exhaustive list, these are some of the tour groups for people with disabilities who SANParks' recommends:

For those people who can drive a hand-controlled vehicle and who do not want to be affiliated to a tour and travel independently, it is possible to hire converted vehicles from many of the major car rental agencies. Usually an advanced notice period of a few days is necessary to enable the hand-controls to be fitted to an appropriate automatic vehicle. SANParks' can recommend AVIS car hire. Hand-controlled vehicles can be hired from all South Africa's major cities as well as from Skukuza Rest Camp in the Kruger National Park.
