Saturday 14 December - one of the hottest day's of the year, after an exhausting week I decided we would only leave when I wake up, big huge mistake, it was 7.30 am when I opened my eyes  and then SO insisted on having a shower first. Drove Witbank - Nelspruit, White River, Hazyview, and in at Phabeni gate - lovely road and not to busy(a lot better than Dullstroom-Lydenburg) However with all the stops it was 5.30 pm before we rolled into a very hot Satara. After unpacking, I lit a fire for show, and it was "clink" time :D Far to hot to eat, nibbles only, while sitting on the veranda listening to the bush - Heaven!

Quote from the Lion King

Mufasa: Simba, let me tell you something my father told me. Look at the stars. The great kings of the past look down on us from those stars.

Young Simba: Really?

Mufasa: Yes. So whenever you feel alone, just remember that those kings will always be there to guide you. And so will I.

The Kori Bustard (Ardeotis kori) is a large bird native to Africa. It is a member of the bustard family, which all belong to the order Gruiformes and are restricted in distribution to the Old World. It is one of the four species (ranging from Africa to India to Australia) in the large-bodied Ardeotis genus. In fact, the male Kori Bustard may be the heaviest living animal capable of flight. This species, like most bustards, is a ground-dwelling bird and an opportunistic omnivore. Male Kori Bustards, which can be more than twice as heavy than the female, attempt to breed with as many females as possible and then take no part in the raising of the young. The nest is a shallow hallow into the earth, often disguised by nearby obstructive objects such as trees. The specific epithet kori is derived from the Tswana name for this bird - Kgori.

“The reason birds can fly and we can't is simply because they have perfect faith,
for to have faith is to have wings.”
― J.M. Barrie, The Little White Bird

Thank you Vlakvarkvrou, Barryels, Grantmissy, Philip1, Hugh, Stampajane, and Tent Dweller, writing a TR just helps to extend the trip a bit longer.

"Why do birds sing in the morning? It's the triumphant shout: 'We got through another night!'" -
Enid Bagnold

What is better than waking up at 4am, sitting with a cuppa listening to the birds and waiting for sunrise

Hi Isinkwe, good to see you around

Hakuna Matata, the Swahili phrase for “there are no worries”, is one of the most important life lessons that one must endure during their lifetime. When Simba runs away from the kingdom, he meets two comical character Timon and Pumba, who teach him to stay away from worries (Hakuna Matata). They help him to replace his worries to happiness, love and hope.
Worries never steal tomorrow’s pain or solve the problems;
instead, they empty our strength and settle a cloud on the face of joy!

We haven't paid the hornbills and the vultures have a hunch
Not everyone invited will be coming back for lunch

Everywhere we looked there were trees full of vultures

They say that somewhere in Africa the elephants have a secret grave where they go to lie down, unburden their wrinkled gray bodies, and soar away, light spirits at the end.”

The torn boughs trailing o'er the tusks aslant,
The saplings reeling in the path he trod,
Declare his might — our lord the Elephant,
Chief of the ways of God.
Rudyard Kipling, The Elephant

Look at You
Along with dolphins, apes, and humans, elephants are among the only animals known to recognize their reflections in a mirror.
~source: Scientific American online

Gettin' Trunky
The elephant's trunk has about 15,000 muscles, and it takes baby elephants quite some time to learn to master its use. The trunk combines both nose and upper lip and transforms them into a single powerful organ that is able to touch, grasp and smell. It is strong enough to uproot a tree, sensitive enough to pick up a pea-sized fruit from the ground, and long enough to reach foliage high in the trees. The trunk is also used to drink by sucking up water and squirting it into the mouth. Finally, elephants use their trunks for greeting, caressing, threatening, and throwing dust over the body.

Now lets see if the page will turn :D

"When you have got an elephant by the hind legs and he is trying to run away, it's best to let him run."
~Abraham Lincoln

Not too near and not too far
Out of the stress of the crowd
Music screams as elephants scream
When they lift their trunks and scream aloud
For joy of the night when masters are
Asleep and adream.

The African elephant and the Asian elephant are the only two surviving species of what was in prehistoric times a diverse and populous group of large mammals. Fossil records suggest that the elephant has some unlikely distant relatives, namely the small, rodentlike hyrax and the ungainly aquatic dugong. They all are thought to have evolved from a common stock related to ungulates. In East Africa many well-preserved fossil remains of earlier elephants have aided scientists in dating the archaeological sites of prehistoric man.

Thank you to everyone for the lovely comments, it means a lot :gflower:

Well the buzz from the bees is that the leopards are in a bit of a spot. And the baboons are going ape over this. Of course, the giraffes are acting like they're above it all... The tick birds are pecking on the elephants. I told the elephants to forget it, but they can't. The cheetahs are hard up, but I always say, cheetahs never prosper...
