And now for the wild life......

1 night Urikaruus, 4 nights Mata Mata, 3 nights Twee Rivieren More than Cricket@Kgalagadi March 2013, 2 nights Nossob, 1 night GrootKolk, 4 nights Urikaruus and finally 4 nights Grootkolk.

The last 4 nights being a late addition....they appeared and I grabbed them a couple of weeks before the trip.

Thanks for queuing with your pop corn (good sales at the front desk :D ) a-m, Tobie, trrrp, LS, wander, kdu, Martie and jan.

This TR will be all over the place. Unlike my others, decided to change approach from day by day type.

For the end, amazingly the 4 nights appeared at GK. Was looking twice a day to do something about our 1 night at GK.

When we were there one of the ladies introduced herself and said that they had booked all of GK for 4 nights and their 4th guests cancelled...hence our booking., and hopefully they do not disturb us when they get together at the communal unit in the evening.

Most evenings were a little noisy but the last was rather loud .... why come to the ends of the country (union) to drink and get rowdy??

On our first stay we had 3 BHs come drink, next morning they were back before we were up so missed them.

First night of 4 nights during the 2 hours of WH light there were 6 BH visits

Slept through the other nights and did not therefore have late night visitors that we knew of.

The last evening was an unbelievable lightening show.
A massive storm cloud moved past, and the lightening showed at the back, all over, strikes not more than a couple of seconds apart. SO is terrified of lightening so she was under the covers.....I love thunderstorms. :D

On the 3rd afternoon/evening/night we had rain. The next morning of our last day I was up well before sunrise and watched the WH all day. During our last 24hrs at GK (left at 06h30 sharp enroute for home) we had the grand honour of seeing exactly 1 BWB.  oh well it is all about the peace and tranquility.....really with drunken rowdiness????

Pics starting with one of the best.

So every KTP visitor soon knows what a PCG is.......

They appear at every turn ......

So early on the morning after the 1 nighter at GK a PCG is sitting on a dead branch close to the road and on the correct side of the sun...

Image

not bad still focussing etc and it opens its wings.

get a click off and see it tumble down....another click

The drive up was planned so that we would arrive at gate opening time have breakfast in the restaurant and then make our way up to Urikaruus.

Left home Friday evening, lots of road works, stop and goes along the route. We will have a great road in the future :D :D

Arrived to locked doors...but they opened up for us ..... had to wait for restaurant to open, tyres let down.....gauges all differed so not sure what we were riding on.....at Nossob adjusted again days later....TR gauges badly out

We headed up Nossob across lower dune road and then up to Uri ..... so happy to be back

The next day we went up to MM for 4 nights.....but first a quick trip down to Kamqua picnic spot. The white landy and a lady I recognised for meet pics was there ...and YRs

Must be Scouter ....Great to meet you and SO Russ the start of many encounters and obviously time shared around the cricket ....

A first ever sighting during the first night at Uri....Cape Foxes.....our 5th visit before seeing one

Image

They were very busy always on the move...

Image

Occasionally they would just settle down in the distance

Image

As luck would have it....the next day whilst tracking down a sighting that Scouter had told us about...in clear daylight what is that???? another

4 nights in the river front units at MM ..... the best accommodation in KTP??? (whole of Sanparks???) wonder what they would be like at Grootkolk????  :hmz: :hmz: yes I am ducking!!!!

Also needed to do some exercise (being diabetic requires 30 minutes per day) so walked around the camp and spent time in the pool...other than playing cricket that was the last I got in

The only evening sighting was a BH on the first night at the new WH.

A great unit to sit and relax, annual holiday after all, read and check the river...dry vegetation-less...

Birds and other things kept us interested.....

Such as a dragon fly in the desert!!???

Another first timer seen the day after LS saw it, at Grootkolk. A tease as first pic on LS's thread was a blurr and we had no idea what it was. Franco did the id from the blurr...thereafter the ice was broken and we had a number of sighting and better opportunities to get pics...

Another first timer for KTP. An eagle that had eluded us, only one previous sighting on the way to Addo last year.

Anne-marie confirmed the id, thanks

The Crow at Uri...hung around keeping me company for hours...we even had a long conversation....gobbeldy gobbeldy etc etc

Unattended he entered the kitchen and started pecking away at the box of Earl Grey Tea.... :D left us with a nice big hole in it...

Image

And then there was another 'angry bird' :D
