As promised, some images from one of the prettiest places on earth. We always find an excuse to visit. :D This time to and from KZN.

The view from the parking lot for the Vulture Hide.

Image

You walk about 800m to the hide but don't let that fool you. It's a stiff little walk!

Image

Looking back towards the car.

Image

The hide itself.

The quality of the photo's made from inside aren't bad either.

Well. when we returned to GG a couple days after this, marathon runners were preparing for the Clarens-Fouriesburg Marathon on the ridge right next to the hide.
We've been up there hiking, countless times, even before the hide was there, and never had any trouble. :D

The only complaint about the marathon runners was that they were the reason the vultures didn't want to sit down to feed.

It is beyond doubt one of my favourite parks. In a few ways I rate it higher than Kruger.
Its quiet, usually plenty birds, but December seems to be a less exciting month. Still we could see many birds which some birders want on their list. Ground woodpeckers? They are almost like starlings! All over the place, loud, and having fun. And that is just them....

I often hear or read people saying there are no animals in GG. Sleep in the Basotho village, and wake in the Masai-mara! We saw literally hundreds of blesbok coming over the ridge (photos will come later) and that is aside from the eland, black wildebeest, springbok and red hartebeest.

And then there is the peace and quiet. The walks, the bearded eagles....

The story of a fly. :D

I first tried with my 17-40mm...

Image

I got bored with that and grabbed the macro lens.

This was made with DuQues' mobile phone.

This is the result.

On the last morning a HUGE herd of Blesbokke came streaming down the hill next to the huts

And a Secretary Bird in quite different surroundings to that of Kgalagadi

Just for the fun - a rock formation next to the Vulture feeding ground that looks exactly like a bird and a lion

Panoramic photos don't work here, but I can posts links to them....
So here are a few links. If need be just download the photos (right-click, Save link as...) and then view them in your viewer. Make sure you set that to 100% though.
