Hope its ok posting about a park visit in this forum?

Took a brief afternoon tour of Marakele today, started out as a bright, sunny, and scattered cloud day.
Visited the picnic area surrounds first, and was quite amazed by the amount of wildlife easily to be seen there.
ps. Was travelling in a sedan (which I sometimes abuse and lead it to believe it's a 4x4) , but I think I'm forgiven so far ...

pps. I need to be forgiven for not knowing what's what in my own country too, but am starting to appreciate all the finer details that it has to offer!

I SWEAR this guy was laughing at us city slickers!!!!


Unfortunately, couldn't spend too much time looking for the waterhole (ps, WHERE IS IT PLS ????) and proceeded on to the mountain outlook 25 odd kms away.

Hit the tar road and started the g r a d u a l ascent, taking in the splendour far as we went;

The park is dotted with these great guys (name please?)


and there were even some birds tackling that juicy nectar!
I missed those shots tho, as the clouds were building up, and it turned to rain soon enough.

Followed the wet road to the top and took in the breathtaking scenery there;

We really had a great trip, but next time, I think an overnighter must be the order of the day.

Imho this is Protea caffra caffra, common sugarbush, suikerbos.

Yes arks you are right… pincushions are different from the suikerbos… The genus Leucospermum (pincushions) is a member of the protea family but a different genera. It consists of 48 species that occur in southern Africa as far north as Zimbabwe.

The Protea family is divided into the following genera:
Protea (like caffra caffra… sugarbush)
Leucospermum (pincushions)
Leucadendron (conebushes)
Diastella (day stars)
Mimetes (bottlebushes)
