We are still having lovely warm weather here 24 deg here today, very strange as normally we are freezing here this time of the year. I see on the weather forecast that the cold will hit us next week so I better enjoy the warmth while it lasts

Berg wind - hot (24C) and windy. But there's a beautiful full moon and lots of stars out.
Waiting for the cold front to arrive.

A dry chilly kind of cold in Gauteng this morning. I see the maximum for Bloem is 10 degrees.

Mild temperature (20 C) but strong wind from the west. Compared to previous years, this is a very mild winter. A good indication is the bird bath. During normal years, it freezes up about three times during winter. Not even once this year.

What makes me think it's going to be bitterly cold this weekend

Snow Report SA - posted today

Very heavy falls are possible in Lesotho this weekend, with some snow up to 150cm expected over the Eastern parts of the KZN Drakensberg, and it looks like Underberg might get its first snow of the season in the village. Starting today, we are seeing some light falls in the WC, fairly focused on the top of Matroosberg, then on Thursday morning, we are starting to see chances of light snow in Northern Lesotho, in the AfriSki area, and also in some areas over the extreme high ground in the WC around Ceres yet again, and possibly drifting across to the Groot Swartberge. By Thursday afternoon, sporadic snow falls are expected across Lesotho, and by evening, some light snow can be expected over the Eastern Cape Drakensberg regions. Friday morning could see some light falls in the NC and WC between Sutherland and Beaufort West on the high ground. And by Friday lunch time, the 'main event' should arrive in Lesotho, the KZN Drakensberg and the EC Drakensberg. By Saturday morning, the snowfalls should be consistent and heavy in Lesotho, the EC Drakensberg region, and over the KZN Drakensberg, wioth some falls possibly drifting down into the foothills of the Drakensberg, and into places like Kokstad and Underberg. Saturday afternoon will still see snow falling in Lesotho, the EC Drakesnberg regions and most of the extreme high ground between Graaff Reinet and Rhodes in quite a broad band. Some heavier falls are possible in the Graaff Reinet area and north towards the NC border. Hogsback is also looking likely for this period. More snow is due to fall over most of Lesotho, the EC Drakensberg, and the EC high ground through the night on Saturday, and into Sunday morning. Some of these falls might be very heavy, with potential to dump quite a lot of snow. Snow will continue in these areas right through to late on Sunday. We will update the map again tomorrow to reflect any changes in the forecast, but it is promising to be a BIG snow weekend. This forecast is made quite far in advance, and is subject to change.
