Poicephalus Meyerii

Meyer's parrot has a green or turquiose (not blue) rump and belly, and a brown (not grey) head, which sometimes shows a yellow bar across the crown.

Juvenile resembles adult, but is duller and lacks the yellow crown bar.

Habitat is broad-leafed woodland and savanna. Flocks often congregate at waterholes.

Scarce to locally common.

A loud piercing 'chee-chee-chee-chee' is its call, plus various other screeches and squawks, typical of parrots.

Afrikaans name is bosveldpapegaai.

Beautiful bird. I've seen them often in Hwange, in Zimbabwe, at Nantwich Camp in the north east of the park, but never in SA.

Are they found anywhere in Kruger?

Often see the brown-headeds in Pretoriuskop.

According to the SABAP 2 project there has been a sighting(s) from the pentad (recording area) that includes Pafuri picnic site, Pafuri camp and Nyala loop. The sighting has however not been verified.
I know that there was also a sighting at the Big Birding Weekend from Punda Maria in beginning of February this year. I would however not take this sighting too seriously. Lets just say the source is a bit questionable

If you really would like to see one of these in SA rather visit Mapungubwe NP where you would almost be guaranteed a sighting.
