I was surprised to find that there's no topic for this little bird, so here's my contribution, which shows both males and females.

Hi, Heres my Cape Sparrow photo, it's from the West Coast National Park in September 2006. It's also my first try at posting a photo, I hope it works.

Wow, Neil... I am so looking forward to you posting these quality shots for ID assistance

BTW, which Canon do you attach to you 400 lense?

Hi Johan, Thanks for your kindness, but I'm afraid they're not all this good. I have an old Canon 300D, Tamron 1.4 extender
and Canon 400L 5.6. On this combination I still get autofocus, and IIRC it was on the whole time in SA, I am lucky enough to have a wife with a 350D looking after all the other photos.

I think I did something wrong when I added the link, because I was hoping that the thumbnail would be clickable for the big photo?

I'm a bit handicapped when it comes to posting pix... but the link itself works... taking one to the larger version of the sparrow

This one looks more like a Cape Sparrow (dull female or more probably a juvenile)

Eugene, I agree with deefstes' call, this one had me looking at a petronia just for a little bit...

Hi Anne-marie,

I'll try with these for you.

4. Cape Sparrow and Sociable Weaver (head only).

Nice pics.

Hi Bush Baptist.

The first photo is a Cape Sparrow. Adult male - Head pattern, rusty back and wing pattern.
