Can Fevertree or anybody tell me where airport is the situated :?: We are flying into Nelspuit Airport on the 25th of August. At the airport we are also collecting a hired car. We have no clue where the airport is :(
We drive through Nelspruit when we go on our long holiday but never seen a sign that says airport. Is it far out of town :?:

Sorry, only saw this thread now, but I assume your question has been answered.
The Kruger Mpumalanga Airport is truly a beautiful airport with thatched buildings, a real African Airport.
It is about 20km from Nelspruit and 5 Km from the N4 highway to Malelane.

I recall seeing a sign after Nelspruit that pointed to a turnoff the N4 to the left to KMIA.
Is this the correct route to use when going to the airport and is it 5km from this turn off?

Does anyone have a good handle on the travel time from KMI Airport to the Phabeni gate? I am scheduled to arrive on a 3 pm flight, and am staying in Skukuza and want to make sure I can get there before 5:30 PM.

Thanks

Take care

Steve

Hi Steve and welcome to the forum.
The distance from the airport to Kruger Gate is around 84 kms and then it is 12 kms to Skukuza.
So assuming your flight lands on time and you can pick up your hire car, say by 3.30pm you still have 2 hours.
I would suggest if you are not familiar with the area you ask your hire company for a quick run through of the route, altho I did see lately that they have put additional signage to KNP.
But as Freda said, it is going to be a bit tight but not impossible, all going well.
I hope you have a great trip.

Hi Jazil,

I will arrive at KMIA at 2pm and hope to be in my hired car before 3pm.

Do you know a quicker way to get to Lower Sabie than via Croc Bridge? Thanks

SAFT

Croc Bridge is the closest gate to Lower Sabie, there is no quicker way to get there.

Its about 120km, so give yourself 1.5 hours. It will still be a rush to get to LS by gate close, so you're better off trying to stay at Croc Bridge instead.

Alternatively, Malelane gate is only 60kms from KMIA. If you've been flying overnight and hanging around at the airport for another few hours, you may want to keep the drive as short as possible. Spend the first night at Malelane satellite camp or Berg-en-Dal - see how you're feeling on arrival and maybe book yourself on a night drive that night.

:? I´m a little nervous flying in such a small aircraft - I´m used to the big jumbo jets! I am not a turbulence fan and wondering if anyone can share their experiences. Kruger 13-20 December

Hi carmencheetah - asked my brother as he is a pilot and he says:

You'll fly in either a Dash 8 or a JetStream - both very safe little planes (possibly safer than a Jumbo Jet  ) so if you do hit turbulance just keep that in mind.

And being a brother he had another chirp when I asked him how to reply to your post (and please this is meant tongue in cheek ;))

He said I must tell you - you are going to die, but not in that plane on that day. Must be pilot talk :D

I used to fly down to Pietermaritzburg every 2 weeks on business in a Jetstream 41.
It's a 29 seater (the one I used to fly in) and I looked forward to every flight.
I did this for 2 years, every other week.
it is a very smooth flight, just a little small in the cabin.
The plane it powered by turbo prop engines, so it has huge power, reliability and smoothness.
Sit back enjoy the flight.
The take off is awesome, to hear those props and engines scream as it revs up is like no other sound.
I guarantee you will enjoy every minute of the flight, as much as I used to.

I'll happily fly little planes anyday. They do not go as high as the big planes, affording you a great view of the landscape under you.
I much prefer them to the "trains in the sky", which fly above the clouds, are often smelly, and use pressure to keep you breathing. That last bit is nice of course, but your ears do not really like it.

Turbulence? Make sure your belt is fastened, and enjoy the rollercoaster!
