Identification help: Lizard

It could be the Delalande's Sandveld Lizard, Nucras lalandii....

i searched around a bit more and i think it was a costa rican basalisk aka the jesus christ lizard that runs on water. i let him go yesterday and now i have a cool new friend to look for in my backyard =]

Yes, mnm, that is not a Southern African lizard.

The one you mentioned immediately came to mind when I saw your photo, but I am not sure about an i.d. since I do not know those lizards.

I took photos of these guys at Mapungubwe's Confluence lookout in 2008 and sent my pics to Johan Marais. He id'ed them as Platysaurus intermedius cf. rhodesianus, commonly known as the Common Flat lizard.
The ones at Mapungubwe being different from the ones found elsewhere in the country.

@Johann…yip, it seems you are spot on :thumbs_up: …btw, the photo you have of this specie is awesome…same goes for your photos of Broadley's Flat Lizard 8)

Dont have any refrences with me at the moment, but looks a lot like one of the ground agamas :wink:

Definitely a ground agama (Agama aculeata) in the previous pic. And the flat lizzard P.intermedius rhodesianus has now been raised to a species Platysaurus rhodesianus, and I agree about the ID. They are extremely common there, but difficult to photograph so well done!

seems to a "collared" lizard... but they are only in Australia :hmz: saw around Lower Sabie - 8.11.09

Thats a beautiful rough scaled plated lizard (also known as sudan plated lizard or african plated lizard) Gerrhosaurus major
