During our stay at Letaba, I came across a dead Crested Barbet on the ground. While the bird was lying on the flood motionless, another Crested Barbet was dive bombing it from a tree above.

I've also seen them fight with Woodland Kingfishers.

Is this because they are very territorial :?: or...

According to Roberts VII, Crested Barbets will vigorously defend their nesting territories against other hole-nesting birds and territorial pairs evict other species, including Red-throated Wryneck, from already occupied nests.

We were about to leave for a drive to Croc Bridge and back to Lower Sabie and I had cut up an apple to put on my cereal and went inside to fetch my binos and camera and came back onto the verandah to find this little thief carrying off the largest piece of apple to the lawn below. Nice to see this bird again as he is absent from the Eastern Cape
