When i was younger (15 years ago) an used to go with my parents to Kruger, we would see them semi-regularly, at least every second trip.
I have just realised (and hence replied with this post) that i probably havent seen one in the last 10 years? Number really as low as 200-250? |

Great photos RP and Yolandé.
We have been quite lucky to have Tsessebe sighting every time we were in the north of Kruger….except my last visit to the north when I was accompanied by Zebra…she so much wanted to see them…at least she got a Eland sighting near Punda My SO and I also had some great sightings in Mokala NP recently. Being pretty ignorant, I hadn't realised that this was a lucky sighting! We saw these near Mopani in October.

Hi All,
I am an annual visitor to KNP and have seen Hartebeest/Tsessebe many times. The problem is that I am never certain which is which even though I have various books. I have found the best place to see them is on the Capricorn Loop near Mopani and in the north by Klopperfontein, although I have also seen them near Pretoriuskop and Letaba. Here are a few I have seen on my last couple of trips and perhaps someone would comment. This male was seen near Pretoriuskop in Nov 2007 and I have seen him previously quite near the camp. I am fairly certain that this is a Hartebeest. These were near Tihongonyeni w/hole and there were about 30 - there appeared to be 3 groups who had come together at the w/hole. Hartebeest or Tsessebe?![]() The last 2 pictures were from a group of 10 near Klopperfontein last Nov and I am now completley confused. Bond UK |
