Has anyone gone on one of these before? How was it and at what camps? What was the cost? Is it done for big groups only? Thanks in advance.

My bush braai experience was probably a once in a lifetime experience! Just a friend of mine and I attended one at Letaba. The other 6 foreign tourists pulled out at the last minute.

It is definitely something that you should do at least once. We went for a late afternoon/early evening drive and then just before we arrived at the braai venue in the bush we drove through +- 50 buffalo. They surrounded our braai area (protected by 2 electrical wires about a meter high) and kept us company the whole time we were there. We were also later on visited by hyeanas.

The cook and his assistant knocked up a dinner of substantial proportions, which was divine. A cash bar kept our worst thirst away and the stories we were told by the guide were some of the most interesting ones I've ever heard.

As we drove back we saw an African wild cat hunting next to the road. Can't remember what the exact price was. They also don't seem to price it on the new website. I think it is in the vicinity of R300 p/p. A bit on the hectic side maybe, but never the less a great experience. Not something everybody could do; except for illegal Mozambicans... Having a braai at night in the Kruger National Park!!

I did the Bush Braai at Letaba and as WTM said it is a fantastic experience it cost about R145-00 pp
WTM did you notice that the fence is only a meter high and charged with a car battery

We did a potjie braai from Pretoriuskop. Great food, fantastic ambience. Cost R179 per person (but we were a group of 26, so I think they dropped the price a little for us). Prices are listed on the Natures Group website http://www.naturesgroup.co.za/facilities.htm

The site was a koppie about 5k outside the camp - no fences and an armed escort to the portaloo just over the track!

Next one I want to do is the Bush breakfast - that looks really cool!

not to worry CD... a lot of times tourists only book at the camp... u may find a whole lot more then 4 people on your bushbraai...

if they didnt take your booking because of the minimum needed then as soon as you go into the reception book then...im sure by then more people have booked....

i have never been to the bushbraai at Satara but have been a number of times to the one at Letaba....

it really is a fantastic experience and the food is to die for!! everytime i have gone on one we have had a lovely group of people joining us.... @ letaba they have a lovely little lean to cash bar where the dinky red wine tastes like nectar from heaven..

it encompasses a sunset drive with an outdoor meal and a night drive home.... all in one!!!

really if u have the opportunity i would say go for it...100%!!

I attended one in Letaba area. You go for a bit of a sunset/night drive and then proceed to a location in the veld protected by 2 knee high electrical wires powered by what someone else said a car battery.

U have a braai with a cook and the guide and have a cash bar to try and get that babalas the next morning. Afterwards you go on a bit of a nightdrive back to the camp.

as far as i know Sandy... the cost varies from camp to camp, i would suggest looking under the SANParks homepage for more info. Kids under the age of 6 are not allowed on night drives i dont know if that applies for the bushbraai as well.... booking via email...perhaps...but make sure they send you confirmation and then double check that booking when stopping in at reception....

A definite to do ... even SA's long to do something like this...

It does not sound right. Why pay for the night drive seperately? A minor night drive was included in the bushbraai when I did it 2 or 3 years ago.

I tried to book a bush braai too. It can't be done in advance and there has to be a minimum of four people. Best to team up with someone.

Boerewors and steak mostly. Sheep, lam and beef in other words.

i'm coming to kruger in July/August and we've been many times before but i'm going on this bush braai that is offered at skukuza, can anyone who has been tell me their experiences and if its worth it.... i'm very excited about it, but would love some feedback...

No doubt you can go wrong with a bush braai ... we have had nothing but good feedback from this ...

Just remember you have to be a minimum of 4 ...

There is also the odd chance you might encounter some of the Big 5

Incidently this photo was taken about 10 meter from the braai ... This rock is where Pretoriuskop have their bush braais .. we did check the "Long drop" to make sure no one was in there ...

Reckon this guy got his "Bush Braai" times screwed up ..
