Found Yellowbilled oxpeckers on the S118, Lower Hlambane this weekend, I was also very surprised to find them this far south, really special.

Found them on the H9 between Phalaborwa and Letaba

Found the bird at its nest on the Nyala loop (Pafuri) in January 2012.

We also found them quite a bit south of Mopani during our vacation last month. I think it is because the large buffalo herds are all down there. We've seen very few buffaloes and no yellow-billed oxpeckers near Punda Maria where we usually see them...

Thanks Groovy. The subject made life easy for me this time.
Using a Canon EOS 400D with a Canon EF 400mm f/5.6L lens for now. Although it doesn't come equipped with an image stabiliser the lens is nice and sharp. Love it.

Johan, it looks like the bird is sitting on my screen and I will be able to touch it. Well done!!

We battled not to find one on every single buffalo herd we came across from as low down as Phalaborwa gate all the way up into Pafuri during our most recent visit.

I found them on buffalo, 6km from Phabeni gate on the tar road. 19 Jan 2013

How far South have YBO been seen?

From earlier in the thread they were seen near Biyamati a few years ago.
Are YB more common in the South now??

Saw one at Ntandanyati hide in late Oct 2012 nowhere near any animals, but on the dead tree nexto the car park !
