Its sad to see the small deer keep appearing on its own night after night at the water hole, i would imagine its seperated from its mother and looking for her, so sad but its nature after all, you feel like saving the poor animal and taking her home, what a daft human i am, just an animal lover.....

Nicholaslw58, I'm not too sure which animal you are refering too, but I presume that it is the Grey Duiker that visits orpens webcam every night! This is a fully grown antelope which is solitary by nature! So nothing to worry about or feel sorry for
If it was a young antelope seperated from its mother, you would not be seeing it night after night as it would not last very long! |

That duiker is an adult and perfectly capable of taking care of herself. |

Big Five was big fun!
I too wonder if the big five have been caught on cams before, but am not sure there is an easy way to find out short of looking each day.... since 2005 Hailey |

As some of you will know, I have a new passion for hyenas, so it is alarming me somewhat the hyena in the satara pond has been laying in the water, motionless for a couple of hours.
I thought at first the camera was broken, but if you look carefully, there are other animals coming and going in the distance. I understand that hyenas have a 50% mortality rate in birthing their pups. On a more cheerful note: whilst watching a streaming cam on another website, I saw a hyena arrive at the waterhole, wade in, have a swim all around, then get out, shake down, and then go back into the bush! Moonlight skinnydipping?? Since first comenting on the hyenas on Sanparks climbing in for a dip, I too have seen this several times now. Comments on the current situation at Sitara welcome!¬ Gillandave |

I agree with Oddesy, just cooling off from the heat.
Also if you look through Satara highlights for November they have been doing it for a couple of days, even at night. Enjoy your camera viewing. Roger the Dodger |

December 1995 we left camp very early and on our return to Shingwedzi we drove to the Mashagadzi borehole and drinking trough off the S134 and found two Spotted Hyaenas in the trough cooling off.
Later the afternoon my son and law asked whether they would still be there, we drove to the spot and there they were cooling off, I cannot say that they were in the trough all day - who knows. |

I believe the temperatures have been over 40 and 42 for the past few days - maybe that explains it..
