African Fish Eagle defnitely. When I hear that call my spine starts tinkling and I just know I'm in a National Park.

I don't know what it's called but I think it is a woodpecker. It sounds like an alarm clock going of. You hear it in the mornings.

I would go with the African Fish Eagle and then the Pearl Spotted Owlet.

It has to be the Grey Lourie
Nothing else captures the sound of the bush quite like it, and seeing as I am currently knee deep in snow in bleak UK, I can't wait to hear this bird call when we return next week to glorious Kruger |

For me there are so many birdcalls that I enjoy, however one that stands out for me is the Black Collared Barbet. Watching the male and female acting as a duet is also something to enjoy.

By far the African Fisheagle as it is so distinctive and unique to Africa.

We just love the call of the Fish Eagle
But when we hear a Crested Francolin, an African Nightjar or a White-fronted Bee-eater we know we are where we want to be! (Oh, and don't forget the Yellow Billed Hornbill ...) |

I cannot say which call is my favourite, however I have a few meaning much to me:
African Fish Eagle calling "I am I am from AFRICA". The White Faced Owl calling "tiu tiu tiu" does something for me in the dark of an AFRICAN night. The Francolin announcing dusk or a new day with their happy "chakkity chakkity chakkity, chee cheeky KAcheeky KAcheeky KA chee". The Guinea Fowl in chorus with the Francolin "krrdii krrdii krrdii". The Crested Barbet's "tjrrrrrrr tjrrrrr" on a hot afternoon makes me feel at home in AFRICA. The Black Collared Barbet calling "toe poedelie, toe poedelie, toe poedelie" makes me appreciate the wonders of nature. The little Fiery Necked Nightjar begging the :good Lord to deliver us" makes all quiet while listening. The "cru cru cru" of a little Scopsie makes me count the days still left in the Park. The "chip tjrr chip tjrr" of the Woodland Kingfisher makes me forget the heat of summer when planning my trip as one really misses them when they have migrated to their warmer destinations. I have to stop now as I still have so many other favourites - all the children of the Great Mother created by the ALMIGHTY. |
