I in fact didn't say you weren't which is why I added what I did at the end of my post. 8)
It was just that Joao had suggested it might be a different snake and in the reptile thread there are others who could have confirmed your or his ID.

my innitial thought after seeing the first photo was black mamba, but after seeing the close uo of the head I now also think olive grass snake

During our 2010 visist to Kruger in Sep we came across this snake om the H4-1 near Nkulu picnic site between Skukuza and Lower Sabie. I was under the impression that it was a black mamba, but I stand to be corrected - perhaps an olive grass? . Any assistance is most welcome to confirm or advise otherwise.

Definitely an olive grass snake, and some of the best photos I've seen of one! The way that grass snakes lift their heads makes them look so cool. I've seen most of the South African grass and sand snakes, yet I've never had a good sighting of a live olive grass snake despite the fact that they are one of the most widespread species.
