Hi All

I have recently emailed Dinky bird with my idea and now need some support to get it off the ground.

When people are adding photos etc i would like to see a like button. Like they use on Facebook. what will happen is instead of reading a report when say its like 22 pages long, and in order for you to comment on a photo you like i have to quote it from pages 3 when go all the way to page 22. you catch my drift.

so next to photos you can click the like button. and what the forum can even do is the most "clicked" LIKED photos will either win the photo of the week or photo of the month. thus entering it in to the final photo of the year. this will encourage people to like the photos and to see how has the BEST photo of the WEEK, MONTH and finally YEAR.


If you think my Idea is a good one lets see if they make it happen

Not a great idea IMO. First, these trip reports are NOT meant to be a photo competition — there's enough of that elsewhere with the bird of the month and mammal of the month, but at least those of us who have no interest in competitions can ignore those . But to add a 'like' button next to each and every photo in a trip report will just make for unnecessary clutter IMO — and who's going to add these buttons? Really unecessary and frivolous.

As I said to you in my reply, it is a fantastic idea, but very dependant on on the forums software. So first off, we need to know if the forums software can do this, and for that we need to hear from the techies. There could be many implications too The mods are discussing this with the technical gurus.

I think it's an awesome idea!!
I know there is a way to rate topics, but not media. so maybe just make a new forum section just for media and people can "Like" the actual topic instead of the photo itself!

But i'll check if there is anything like what is wanted.

Just want to let you know that I have merged three posts into this thread which were in a thread of the same name started by MMM but in Travel Tales.

As it was not a Trip Report I removed the thread from that forum, and have now merged the posts that were there to here.

Im glad we are getting some great response to this. at the end of the day it would just be great to see how many people are liking your photos etc. its great to share stories and the love of a good photo

Before too much interested is added to this, let me get my word in

1. Photos are not stored on the server that the forums are served from, users are using URLS from external sites.
2. Storage of photos and / or media on the same server as the forums will put immense load on the server from a processing and bandwidth point of view, therefore not feasible.

With the above in mind, us as the "techies" have no control of the actual content of the posts and their are not able to add in a handler of sorts to do these like counts. We will be able to do this with posts however, but that will take time and need to be scheduled accordingly.

In the light of the Facebook like option, that would also be for posts and would not be able to be used for photos.
