Just for the record, despite having upgraded to Windows 7 and the latest version of Firefox, I am STILL having to log on every time that I vist the forum. Clearly the "log me on automatically each visit" function is no longer working -- at least for me :wall: :wall:  :wall:

Arks,

The only other thing I can think of is the way your anti-virus is set up. When I bought a new laptop it came with a free 12 month subscription to a popular AV program - and it was already set up and configured. Up until then the "log me on automatically each visit" worked, then it stopped. I tracked down the setting on the AV - it was automatically logging me out of every website when I closed my browser. Unfortunately I can't recall what or where the setting is but it might be worth doing a search.

Hi arks, maybe try this link: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/usernames-and-passwords-are-not-saved

Go to the "Passwords being automatically cleared" section.

I hope this helps.

I've been doing some testing with Firefox, its not a browser I trend to use much these days as I prefer Chrome.

However I recreated the non-retention of login details and then I got it working again. Here's how:

Firstly clear all the board's cookies. Easily done by scrolling to the bottom of the main Board Index page and clicking the Delete Board Cookies. Warning - if you are logged in while doing this you will be logged out.

Next clear the cache on your PC/laptop. Press the F5 key at the same time as the <CTRL> key. On some laptops you may also have to press the <Fn> key to operate the F5 key as well.

Now change the Firefox settings. Go to the Firefox menu by clicking the Firefox button at the top left of the browser window. Now click Options and Options again. Select the Privacy tab and in the History section click the Settings button to the right of the Clear History When Firefox Closes check box. In the History section of this new window make sure Active Logins and Cookies are unticked. In the Data section make sure Saved Passwords and Site Preferences are also unticked. OK twice to close the windows.

Login and your login details should be saved.

Thanks for going to so much trouble, Sara. However, all this seems to have done is delete browser 'history' that I would prefer to keep. I still have to log in, despite having ticked the 'log me in automatically' option. Oh well ...............

:hmz:

I do find that the "keep me logged in" isn't a consistent experience for me, and I use multiple machines and devices to access this and other forums. (this is the only phpBB forum I have a problem with)

SANParks tech guys, maybe the issue is with board cookie settings? Is it set to be www.sanparks.org instead of sanparks.org? (I'm reading the latter might work) And can you force it so the main headers aren't cacheable?

Just spitballing.

Interesting Stark, because I'm finding that sometimes I stay logged in and sometimes I don't, no consistency at all :hmz: My default home page is http://www.sanparks.org/ and I then click on forums in the dropdown menu. And as I've said from when this log-in problem first started, many many months ago, I have changed nothing. Rather, without my making any changes at all, one day I was no longer logged in automatically every time. Since then, I do on ocassion stay logged in, but more often than not, I have to log in again whenever I return. :wall:

I could never experience any success with "keep me logged in", but couldn't care less. I just log in every day!

 I think you've missed the point, Hilda -- which is why offer the 'log me in automatically' option at all if it doesn't work?

It certainly used to work for me -- for years! :wall:

I must say that on my home machine, i am logged in automatically. with no problems at all.
On the computer in the office, I have to log in every time.
On both machines I use Google Chrome and Sanparks is bookmarked.- any reason for the difference ??

Billyf - as I've said before its not one thing but a combination of a few. Anti-virus settings and how your browser is set up to deal with cookies being the two main ones.

Arks - its offered because, for most people, it does work. Why it doesn't work for your particular settings I don't know unless I got to have a look at your particular set up.

Today I tried to use both the small and the tiny font sizes in a posting but ALL I get is the normal size text. Can this be fixed please?

example (supposed to be 'small' text): Can this be fixed please?

When I specify 'tiny', I get size=50, and when I specify 'small', I get size=85, BUT the text size stays the normal size.

VERY frustrating!!! :wall:

Can anyone tell me why I am getting blue words in all posts? They are in bold print and underlined and they are links to all sorts of things such as definitions on Wikipedia. It is really irritating because every time my cursor moves over one, it opens this new small window to the link.

Thanks for the alerts, Arks and Salamanda.
Everything normal for me, but I will forward your queries.
