I've received a reply from the owner of the website that my pictures have been removed. This might be satisfactory for SANP but not for me. I will continue to press for compensation using all means available to me as they have used my images on a commercial web site without prior written authorisation.
Some of the members of this forum have received high quality images from me for free for personal use after asking me if they could have them. For private use I (almost) never deny these request. I however will not let a commercial company use my images for their personal gain for free. M. |

I just checked too, and from that site it looks to be gone. (Site looks silly now.)
Hoever, if I look at other sites of theirs, like here I still see familiar photos... |

Maybe there is something positive that can come from all of this
Yesterday I noticed that there are loads of websites advertising our national parks and its facilities….but actually very few have photos of the accommodations. I believe the reason for this is because there are plenty of stock photos of lions in Kruger, for example, but very few photos up for sale of the accommodation in Kruger. I, like I’m sure many other regular visitors, have some great photos of the various accommodation in different parks…and many of these photos are much better quality as my old photos Krugerpark.com “stole”. I’m however not in the business of selling my photos…. photography is just a hobby for me and I have no intention to go change that. I will however gladly donate my photos for worthy causes. What about the Virtual Honorary Rangers starting a photo database with photos of the accommodation in the parks and selling these photos as a fundraising initiative for project chosen by the forum….forum members can then donate their photos to the VHR ….obviously following all the legal avenues …handing the right to the photos over to the VHR??…getting model release form where there are people in the photo, etc. |

For fund raising, Jumbo that sounds like a great idea!
If this does materialise, I will gladly donate some of my photos. |

Great idea Jumbo!
I will discuss this with SANParks, and the VHRs and keep you posted. The VHRs are becoming more and more 'active', and we are hoping now that it will only be a matter of weeks before the region is formalised. The NAs (new applicants) in the region are busy with their last course and will soon be able to be appointed HRs in the VHR region. Once that has happened the region will have enough appointed HRs to begin to operate fully as a region. What you have suggested is exactly how the region can look at being of service to SANParks! |

I think that your idea is a great one.
Should I be insulted that no one has stolen any of my pics??? Perhaps a burning car is not one they want to put up on their websites!!!! |

Jumbo wrote bert wrote This forum does have a wealth of information. In text and images by the forumites So big that other professional sites need to steal Well it appears there are more websites who believe the forum to be a source of free stock photos… On this page I recognize 3 of my photos and there are also a couple of Dreamer’s photos (all posted in the Grootkolk thread) http://www.northerncape-direct.com/groo ... rness-camp All but one of the photos on this page is mine that I posted in the Gharagab thread http://www.northerncape-direct.com/ghar ... rness-camp And my SO is starting to feel like a supermodel with his backside being posted all over the web…. http://www.krugerpark-direct.com/sirheni/sirheni-camp http://www.northerncape-direct.com/mata ... ented-camp Hi Jumbo, I have been going through the sites you mentioned that had some of your pics - they look a bit scarce today. Can you perhaps check aand let me know if your pics are still there as I am not sure which ones were yours? Also, will alert Nedret to your fundraising idea Kind regards, Melanie SANParks |

wow, this just isn't right, hope you guys get it resolved. i would be very angry.
always, always fill in your metadata, that way your name and copyright is stamped onto the photographs file data with your name, date and all that other good stuff like how you shot it. also a little program i like to use is this online photo tracking service and hey it is free! http://tineye.com/ |
