In the land of Parks the biggest river was SAN……….this was fed by a tributary called Forum.
During January 2012 a big flood came and the water level rose to an all time high of 486 mites. Within 3 days 23828 views were recorded in the province of “topic flood”. All the people living next to Forum jumped into their login boats and lend a hand during this flood, either by funding through the survival team VHR or by giving moral support to those who were dependant of SAN and Parks. Row Row Row your boat down the stream they went, all but gently. If only they had a bigger boat with an engine. As they were rowing past webcams, they saw the stiffnecks and wildlife photography enthusiasts standing on the banks and they knew here they will never feel like a fish out of water. Nobody made waves and even while it was raining cats and dogs, all the people gathered under the Ubuntu tree. They tide a yellow ribbon around the old Mopani tree and wrote travel tales about what they experienced during this time. Plenty of water has run under the bridges, but still the people living next to Forum talk about those days and how they needed that boat to reach those far off provinces like Bontebok. As they say in a family, blood is thicker than water, and these people are family and would walk through deep waters for each other. Come hell and high waters, they keep head above water, because they can chitt chatt and play quizzies. Every day people join to get their Login boats. They sail down Forum and call others “Come on in, the water’s fine”. |

Our thinking is that if we can include writings from 'mites it will be a wonderful illustration of what this forum community is all about, and a very unique effort to win the boat
We have complied with the other requests to end the competition getting the necessary documents from our park manager and bontebok. |

![]() Here's my effort... Bontebok Bontebok, Bontebok, I read you need a boat. A rubber dingy will just not do it, seems help from the VHR's is needed. A sponsorship by Ocean Legacy Marine, who have reached out, it's no longer just a dream. Patroling the Breede River will be with ease, while Swee Waxbill's and Water Thick-knee's will be seen. Protecting our fauna and flora each day, there's a community that will stand by you, come what may. SANParks are the protectors of our beloved land, now they need our forum's helping hand. Bontebok, Bontebok, here's my hand, let us conquer, together we will stand. Bontebok, Bontebok, I have you in my dream, fynbos, renosterveld and bontebok as far as the eye can see. |

Thanks DB. So here is my second effort: Help Bontebok - if you please! There is a National Park down south Called Bontebok. A place of quiet reeds And rustling trees And silky, windblown grasses. A place where blossom dwells All year. Where Fynbos fills the air With earthy, honeyed scents And sound of bees. It’s bordered by a river winding Twixt grassy isles. Lurching round Secret corners, teased By the silky invisible fingers Of errant breeze. Here the rare and vulnerable are safe, Eyed through winter cold and summer sun By dedicated rangers who work hard with Basic tools. And need your help – A boat would please. And make them feel their toil Is worthy of the soil that is their charge. River patrol would be its task; to join the rubber duck For counting birds and other needs- So hear our pleas And grace that lovely place; It’s needs appease. |
