A while back one of KTP’s rangers, Albert Boyane, was attacked by a lion. When you read the report, it is obvious that it was a miracle that he survived the attack.
The original reports about Albert seemed to bode well. Sadly, there were complications and Albert’s hand had to be amputated. Christmas has always been a time of paradox for me. I both love and hate this time of the year. Perhaps it is because it is a time when loss, pain, suffering and need seem so stark against a background of glitter, tinsel and quite honestly vulgar, crass consumerism. The original Christmas was an occasion of need. It was a silent moment of one still light in the darkness of winter. Christmas was celebrated, not as an historical moment of a birthday, but a symbolic moment of “the coming of the light”. It took place after the winter solstice when survival, cold and hunger were realities in the deep winter chill. I have always tried to keep the needy in my mind during this period. It helps me to survive “Boney M and Jingle bells” intact. It also brings in aspects of true joy and generosity. There was an appeal recently for help for the Boyane family after hearing about Albert’s most recent setback. I am not able to give what I would like, due to many factors. I am sure that I am not alone in this situation. I did think though, why not give a gift of concern and love during this difficult time that they are facing? He is the breadwinner for six children; they must have experienced some extremely tense moments. I am sure that as a forum community we could get a Christmas hamper together. I know, that my Christmas will be brighter, happier, deeper if I can join the Bojane family in spirit as they experience a little more light, a little more hope. I am willing to get things going, co-ordinate and do what I can. I would just like to know if I have "buy in" from the rest of the forum and some ideas. |

MM, great idea and ready to help here.
Can a number of wildlife calendars be placed on auction and proceeds go to Albert and his family??? If we can make this arrangement will start working on something immediately. |

Hi Meandering Mouse - keep us updated please. I'm sure forumites wouldn't mind making a small donation to the family.

Thanks so much for your replies
this has not been forgotten. There are a couple of issues, one being the time problem. The other issue is that whenever there is likely to be an exchange of money, it becomes a bit more complicated. This is where the Virtual rangers come in as they are properly audited and there is a money trail. I woulld really like it if we could do something, but I am not sure if logistics will allow us to get everything ready in time for Christmas. Any ideas out there Perhaps, if someone is going in that direction, they could let us know? I might be going later in the year, but not over Christmas. |

Hi Meandering Mouse,
Mmm I see the problem... Unfortunately I am not going in that direction soon and haven't been at all! Maybe other forumites have some ideas for us? |
