The Marsh Sylph, Metisella meninx, has a single brood period from December to March. It is restricted to the wetlands of the highveld. This one was seen near Witbank.

Nice one. Even though these butterflies have a very large range, a lot of their habitat, especially in Gauteng, is being dried up to make space for development. That, and together with polution near streams is seriously threatening many of the localities! Fortunately they occur from the Natal highlands (Oliviershoek Pass, Harismith, etc) through Gauteng and well into Mpumalanga.
