Butterfly: Green-banded Swallowtail

Today i saw a butterfly that was totally black with blue out lines on the wings :?

any idea on what is was?

I think that would be the female of the Green Banded Swallowtail (the male is green). Papilio nireus lyaeys

Green-banded Swallowtail, Papilio nireus lyaeus, probably a female… males have intensely blue marking on the upper wing as opposed to the duller green of the females… I think! :lol:

It is found year-round, peaking from November to February from Mossel Bay north in a broad area along the eastern coast into most of the areas north of the Vaal River. This one was photographed on the Mahonie loop at Punda
