I love the plaintive call of the grey hornbill - so evocative of the bush.

I have to agree with you WAC, there are so many it is difficult to
choose, but living in the Free State my choice is more limited, so I have to say at home it is the 'Cape Robin Chat'. When at Kruger in the summer, I love the 'Woodland Kingfisher', and for the evenings I have to agree with the weird avvie'd serval |

elephus wrote Grey Lourie Mods, please do somthing about the serval's avatar, this is a family forum... I didn't think people concentrated on the people in the pic . At least I can at the same time also crop the telephone poles . Done , your family can now stop perving ... |

Definitely the African Scops Owl while sitting around a "hardekool" (lead wood) fire in the bush...prrt-prrt...I hope that is the one I'm thinking about.

My Wife calling me outa bed saying the coffee is ready
In all hosently, Scops Owl at night and during the day - I think it is some type of dove, you allways hear it on african wildlife programs. Might be the Mourning Dove, I dont have speakers with me so its kinda difficult to hear. |

Probably green spotted dove ? (alternative name emerald spotted wood dove - often seen flying up off the quieter dirt roads)

Alright, I'll break the ice
The African Fish Eagle, it has to be the best sound in Africa, followed closely by the Kuduzela. |

For me it's the Yellow Billed Hornbill. When I go through the tunnel on the way to Hoedspruit and Phalaborwa, I cannot wait to see and hear the first Hornbill. When I hear them, I know that paradise is just around the corner.

For me also the African Fish Eagle - known here as Inkwazi. I live close enough to the Tugela river to hear them, if not see them.
