Ok, will give this a bash but I am not "big" on plants/Trees etc.
This tree has a very specific way or place that is grows. It has whitish bark and rounded leaves. The fruit it produces ripens to pale or dark red and are popular with humans, baboons, monkeys and birds such as the Purple-crested Louries Pigeons and Brown-headed Parrots, Barbets and many more. |

ndloti wrote Rock fig (?) ? Yes! Did I make it too easy or you too clever? Ficus abutilifolia, or Large-leaved Rockfig. These trees have always fascinated me with the way they can split or crack rocks with their aggressive root system. It has a short. crooked, low-branching, yellow white trunk with bark that peels off in paper-thin flakes. |

This tree which diceros bicornis (and others) utilises contains a milky latex which can be termed poisonous to man.

Thanks for the reminder, ndloti
If you had a farm with a stand of black wattle , that you had just clear felled, to get rid of it.....why would it not be a good idea to burn the area afterwards to clear the remaining slash and stumps?? |

I am going to take a wild guess. Fire helps to crack open the seeds which helps with the germination process.

My guess would be that they contain a high oil content (like pine trees) and would cause a bigger fire than planned and more damages in the end.

I'll go with Rooies.
The black wattle germinates like crazy after a veld fire. |

The fire might destroy seeds and seedlings which could flourish given space and moisture?
