Name one specie of birds that is considered, morphologically, a somewhat intermediate between the Kestrels and the Hobbies.

That's the closest I could get from reading up on the various Falcons in the big Roberts!

I'll speak to BF. She isn't so active on the forums anymore. Please go ahead and keep the 'bird quizz' alive.

Hi all! Sorry I haven't been on in a long while!
Here is the next question to get us going again! I soar high in the skies; I was once found as far south as the Eastern Cape; I can, and will, battle it out with birds larger than me; I am a sign of fresh death. WHAT AM I? |

Bush Fairy,
I am not sure on this one, but my first guess is the Bateleur, because their is a lot of myth about this bird under the Xhosas referring to it as lightning bird. The other one is the Lammergeier or Bearded vulture that is smaller than the Cape vulture and now only found from Golden Gate to Southern Drakens berg. These vulture are more known for picking up bones so the first answer is more likely to be correct unless I am far off. |

Son godin wrote I am not sure on this one, but my first guess is the Bateleur, because their is a lot of myth about this bird under the Xhosas referring to it as lightning bird. 100% Son godin The Bateleur was once found all over the Eastern Cape, but because of its keen eyesight and the fact that stock formers were putting out poisoned meat to kill raptors, caracal and black-backed jackal, they were normally the first to find it and were soon wiped out! Bateleur will battle with birds larger than themselves such as vultures and even martial eagles. They, along with the hooded vultures, are normally first at a fresh kill. Well done! You are it! |
